I read a natural geographic article that i found very interesting about avalanches. I learned some facts such as they kill over 150 people every year, and if you get trapped in one you rarely survive. Avalanches can travel from speeds in excess to 80 miles an hour, which would be a little hard to outrun. They are often triggered by snow mobiles, skiers, and snowboards who cause much snow to move around, triggering more and more ice, sow,and rock to follow. It isn't true that its triggered by yelling or a gun shot it takes much more then that. This is why when you are on mountains skiing and what not, you must stay on the beaten trial so a disaster like this doesn't happen. I'm glad i read this article because before this i really didn't know anything about avalanches.
