The Road

PART A: Explicate the following two passages. You may use your notebook to assist you.
1) The first page of The Road (the paragraph ends at the top of pg. 4). It begins: “When he woke in the woods in the dark…” You may answer this question knowing what you do about the book as a whole. (10pts)

In this scene it seems like character is just explaining a whole a lot about the scenery and like trying to get us to have a feel for this book. Basically the main character has just woken up in the middle of the woods on a cold dark night. The authors attitude toward the subject is simple. He’s mood is just trying to make us feel what the character is feeling. The literary techniques are pretty much metaphors.


2) The last paragraph of The Road (pg. 286-87). The paragraph begins: “Once there were brook trout in the stream…” (5 pts)

3) What do you suppose the man did as a job in his former life? Explain.

The man I believe had to be either a firefighter a cop or a veteran the war. I believe the man was some sort of a fire fighter because he has the bad cough which means he had to have dealt with something that degree of work.. And also believe he was a cop because the way he had that great shot to the head of that one cannibal. But I also do believe he was veteran because he like knows the stuff he needs to survive and he could read a map pretty good and had knowledge about where they rested and stuff.
4) Are the man and boy heroes? Why or why not?
Well

I believe the man and the boy were heroes to some extent even though they didn’t really like help the people that were stuck in the basement about to get eaten. But they also did help the old man that was blind they gave him some food. The boy is more of a hero then the man because he wanted to help everyone he saw but helping could have killed him.
5) What will happen to the boy and his new family? Explain your answer.
I believe in the future the boy will be raised and thought very well with his new family. They seem like nice and respectable people because the mother and father have children and they have to teach the children how to live and respect others and they will just take him as one of they’re own.

Outside Reading Book

I still havent decided what book i should read yet its really between three very stunning books. The first book is this book that i found in your class (burgess guys and lit) which i think is called sohpmore year. This book pretty much explains its self. Ive read only a couple pages but it sucked me in. The author in this book is sorta like a kid. He uses vocabulary that you could understan and easy to follow. The second book is the autobiography of malcom X. This book is such an inspration for me because malcom a hellbent kid somewhat like me he also was a muslim which is a very amazing thing to see someone who believes what you believe in do so much for america and other black muslims. The third book im deciding on reading is The seires of unfortuant events. I know ive already explained about this seires in my other blog. These books are all really brilliant books and i probibly will end up recomending this book to alot of different people.

Outside Reading Book

Well i havent selected a outside reading book yet but i have a lot of books in mind like for example the autobiography of malcom X. Even though a read a little bit of it i want to read about it more like pretty much digest it. Even though its a very wonderful peice of writting i want more interesting stuff like and action book or something. I think i might just end up reading the series of unfortunate events book eight by lemony snicket since i have it and read a little. im on the eight book. so to basicly sum up what happend the events leading to this point. There were three three kids they were kin violet the oldest sister calus the second oldest son and sunny the youngest sister. So basicly theyre parents died a tragic fire and they were sent to theyre other legal gardiuan count olaf. olaf is after theyre money that theyre parents left for the kids. So after the kids were living with olaf he tried to kill them so they moved away and he followed them to the next house and the next he did it for seven houses. im early in the book so i would bet he will appear sometime in the book. Its so interesting the way lemony chooses to write he's books its mysterious and scary but its also enlightening. He adds speacial talents to the kids. Like violet is an inventor, claus has knowledge about most things they come across and sunny has the ablity to use her teeth bite hard things. So i believe the series of unfortuante events is the book im probibly going to read for this quater.

The Road

The road is a very interesting book so far, It is a big page turner. It's a page turner because its so mysterious I mean anything can happen. I like how this story is about a father and his son, but i dislike how the son is young because then his father has to do all the work and the father has no one to relate to or like to talk to closely. The son in this book is curious. The weird thing about the very book is the author uses words repeatably like the son will say "okay" to everything. The author makes this book very simple and very interesting. I believe everyone should read this but I mostly recommend this book to all my guy friends. The reason I recommend this book to all my guy friends is because its about two guys that need survival and I bet that it will get gory once they're desperate for food or someone unfriendly comes across them. in the long run it will suck for the boy because he's dad will pass away and then he wont have someone to talk to or he could pass away and his dad will have no one to keep him comany. So i'll just have to stand by and see what events happen next.

The Odyessy Part 2

We have just about wrapped up the odyessy. It was a great adventure novel. I didnt mind the book in the beggining but as the story went on i started to like it. Its not so much a page truner but its still a great book. The lititure is a wonderful art. Its not like your average adventure book it has meaning in every sentence. The plot is a very intersting one. Its a about a man going to war and ending up lost and not being home for abdout 20 years. Even though we missed a couple chapters i felt that i was right beside odessyus. The movie has helped me understand the book alot. The actors needed some help on theyre acting but i dont mind that its still . It is amazing to see the book come to life. The only negatives in about this book the long study guides and the random quizess. Over all the book was a very interesting one. Towards the end of the book the story caught my attention. It got really gory really fast. I was glad that he got home back to his kingdom. The book came with pros and cons but there were more pros then cons. But the pros rose over the cons.

The Oddyessy

The Oddyessy is a adventureous book so far. It is a very intresting book it has a lot of details added to the characters. I love how the author brings the book to life. If you ask me two words i could describe the oddyessy would have to be full of details. Details makes the world go round. There are a bunch of pros and cons that come with this book. The pros are the book is adventuerous and very intresting which i like and keeps me turning the page; the liticure is very marvlous. The cons are there just way too many people introduced in this book another con is most of the time i dont understand what going on and which god is which. The work we have to do for the oddyessy is too much too handle. As much as i would like to love this book the cons are pushing me away. If i had to rate this book so far id probibly give it a 6. I would recomend this book to people intersted in history or myths and gos and such. But were not done with the book so there is still time to change my mind about this book.

End Of First Quater (blog #1)

This quater has moved quite fast. This being my first year at any highschool it didnt take a while for me to accustom myself to the learing expectaions and guide lines. My mid-quater grade has been a whole lot better then my end of the quater grade. But i dont mind it much my grades this year have been better then any other year im at a really high C+ average and im quite comfortable with that. I would want atleast a B- or something of that sort but C+ is still good. But the only thing that i need improvement on is my behavior. It has pissed off half my teachers but im slowly getting better. I need to be on a good note with my teachers because i need to get recomended to colleges. But otherwise i have been better this year then last year. Homework hasnt been burtal to me yet. But i bet teachers have something up their seleves. But till then im going to eat whatever gets thrown at me.

College Is Coming Too Soon??

College is so close i can feel the campus breeze. Its weird how fast people grow up. Just yesterday i remember letting go of my mothers hand as i ran to my preschool class. I can barely believe im in the tenth grade. Im really not ready for college im barley ready for my SAT. But i take the school year day by day. I feel really proud of myself for passing my writting grad test. Even though it waasnt a score i wanted i was cool with it i mean atleast i passed. From i what hear college is the hardest form of education there is. My cousins are in college and most of theyre work that i see is just unbelieveable. And on top of all things there are a bunch of colleges to choose from. And the stress of applying and trying to get recommended by your teachers. Now the expense is a subject by itself. It is ridiculos the way the economy is got this set up. And theres all ways that thought in the back of your mind about whos going to be the mastermind behind a columbine. But its not going to keep me from going. They say education is the key of life. But i guess it will be worth it once your sitting on a house and car with a good job and cool family.

My Invocation

Tell me muse about the young boys of many miles. About the times they dashed into the harsh winter of a amazing city. On the journey to find warmth. Theyre bodies suffered mind numbing cold. Numb toes and fingers, sore feet. Dying to reach a warm destination with these boys soon to be men thogether they push something like a team. Quiting isnt a opition if it was the winter would freeze theyre bodies like water in the fridge.

Is Lupe Fiasco The Next Legend??

Lupe fiasco or wasalu muhammed jaco is the next be thing. His first album was called Food and Liquor. It was had four grammy nominations. best rap solo, best rap song, best rap album. He only won one of the four nommiantions. He won best urban performance. It reached number one on billboard's best rap album. To me his first album wasnt the best album he made it could have been just a little better. But on the other hand his second album just blew mind. It was spectacular. The Cool is what it was called. It was certified gold. Once again his album reached number one on the top rap album. The cool was a much darker album the Food and liquor it. It was dark because his farther and his friend "Stack Bundles"; also his mentor was sentenced to 44 years in prison. The Cool was a marvouls peice. He really spoke his mind in the album he brought the songs to life. I think lupe is a legend because one he isnt mainstream like other rappers for example lil wayne. Two he has alot of respect for the hip hop game. Three he doesnt rap about nonsense like money drugs or women. He is a unique rapper. I also think he is the best rapper in his time. His only competion is mos def, common, talib kweli and atmosphere. But those guys are on his level. Lupe fiasco is a legend.

Wild 2-0 Already?

The wild season opener was amazing. It was more then i expected then the wild. They played the boston bruins. They played strong but fell weak towards the third period. They scored three goals in one period. The score of the game ended up being 4-3 wild on top. Theyre second game was against the atlanta Thrashers. They played good koivu had two assits, gabriok had a goal unassisted and andrew brunette fromer Avalanche scored as well. I thought the wild would struggle since they traded two very talented players Brian Rolston and Pavol Dametria. But i guess i was proved wrong. But we did get some good players in the trade. Like Andrew Brunette. He already scored his first goal as a wild agaisnt the thrashers. What really suprised me the most was that Mikko Koivu is now the new captain of the wild. I think the wild will have a great season. definetly play off material. They got a new mascot. which helps them get motivated guess. Last year they had a good year they made it to the playoffs but lost in round one to the Colorado Avalanche. This year im looking foward for them to make it further then last year.

WaS hOmeCOmiNg WoRth iT??

The day started off with a soccer game against prior lake. It was not a bad game for me i had a couple of mistakes but i made them up. We ended up winning 2-1. After that i had to go to alot of different places because i had arrons to run for homecoming like getting my shoes and corsage which was not that expensive. After all that i went home showered and got everything organized. I left to go pick up my date but a block away from my house i remembered that i forgot the tickets so we had to drive back and get them. Onced i picked up my date we were on our way to take pictures that was fun because it suprised me when i saw most of my good friends wearing suits and dresses. From the pictures we walked over to maigianos. Now this is where it began to suck the bill for dinner was 70 dollars plus tax. The food wasnt bad at all but it wasnt worth 70. The desert was horrible it consited of icecream and bread. Then from there we went to the dance the tickets cost 50 dollars together. But the dance was totally worth going but not the money..

Minnesota Choking Once Again.

As you all know by now the Minnesota Twins lost yesterday to the Chicago White Sox 1-0. Last year the Wild had their chance in the playoffs too make something of themselves but they blew it in round one of the playoffs against the colorodo aves. Last year The Vikings had a chance to go to the playoffs but played horrible and didnt get in. And lets not even bring up the timberwolves they havent had a chance since kobe and shaq were on the same team. It has come too my attention that minnesota chokes when thers an important game too be played. It seems like there is a curse that has to be broken. The Vikings are trying to by adding a threat on defense and playing Adrian Peterson the ball a ton. The Wild not so much they gave up two key player Pavol Demitra And Brian Rolston. I dont Really have intrest in basketball so i dont have the facts on that. But the Twins is a team of a young players they'll grow up and learn from theyre mistakes. So far the Vikings are doing bad with the standings of 1-3 but you never know. The Twins season is over but hopefully they learn and get better by next season. Basketball and Hockey season doesnt start for a while but when it does we'll say where we get. But Till then lets pray for the vikings

Malcom X

Today i've just finshed reading the autobiography of Malcom X. I overall it was a outstanding book. It has given me knowledge that i have'nt had before on Malcom. Malcom was born on May 19th 1925. Malcom was a very troubled kid growing up he's father died when he was 13, he's mother was declared legally insane, and he was split up from he's brothers and sisters. Malcom also dropped out of school in the eight grade. Malcom has had trouble with the law ever sicnce he was split up from his family. He has been in and out of prison a couple times. But while he was in prison serving his 8 to 10 years he met a guy named John Elton Bembry a self-educated man. John conveniced Malcom to educate himself. While Malcom was in prison he's brother wrote him about the nation of islam. Malcom wasnt really intrested in this nation of islam. After Malcom was released from prison he visited Elijah Muhammad the leader of the black muslims. He then changed his last name from little to "X". In June 1953, Malcolm X was named assistant minister of the Nation of Islam's Temple Number One in Detroit. In 1958 he married betty X. He and betty had six daughters toghether. In early 1963, Malcolm X started collaborating with Alex Haley on the autobiogarphy. Malcom X was assinated on february 21st 1965.

A Journey I Intend To Take

A journey that i would want to take before i pass away would be traveling to eygpt to ride camel across the desert and check out the pryamids. Then travel to amsterdam. Then i would like to go to jamaica and check out the sceneary. Then i would like to hike across the rainforest. i would like to enjoy these journeys with my closests pals.

Blog Expectations

My name is aleman, which I will personalize and make my own (but not post pics of myself or use my last name on). I will always use appropriate language on my school blog and follow the conventions of the English language. The expectation for this assignment is that I post on my blog once a week for the remainder of the school year. I am expected to comment on texts that I am viewing in the world around me. These might include, but are not limited to: books, magazines, movies, internet articles, televisions shows, trips to museums, etc. Each post should be at least 200 words. Each weekly post is due by 8am on that Wednesday. Therefore, Q1 due dates are 9/17, 9/24, 10/1, 10/8, 10/15, 10/22, and 10/29. That makes for a total of 7 posts for a total of 7 posts this first quarter. I understand that blogging is a significant component of my quarter grade. By the way, what I have just typed is 196 words. Now it is 200!
